What a great writing weekend! My total combined word count was somewhere around 5,000 words. Wow. And I'd say that most of those 5,000 words were good words.
I'm in the final stretches of the novel and just need to figure out a few more things before I can wrap it up. I am so excited to finish it. But even more? I'm excited to edit it. I know that sounds strange to many, but I really get into the heart of my story when I revise. I develop my theme, fine-tune my characters' growth, and have lots of fun just playing with the language. To me, the pressure is off. I've already written the story and I have all the elements in place - now I just get to polish those elements.
I feel so blessed to be doing what I love. :-)

I love editing. It's my favourite pastime. Well done on 5k words this weekend.

ReplyDeleteYour second favorite thing happened here this weekend - 5 inches of snow! It was a nice weekend to stay in, I did some writing too, by the fireplace, a fresh pot brewing. Great accomplishment on your 5k words! You're almost to the finish line.
ReplyDeleteYAYAYAYAY! I know exactly what you mean! As I come closer and closer to the end of the novel it just flies! I love it! Congrats! I'm so excited for you and I enjoy editing too! It allows me to fall i love with the story all over again! hahah!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't sound strange to me at all; I agree! Great job, Melissa. Keep at it, girl.
ReplyDeleteThere is no high like the one you get after a good day of writing! Keep going, you're almost there. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteThat certainly is a wonderful word count, no wonder you're pleased.
ReplyDeleteThanks, everyone. :-)
ReplyDeleteJust finished the final revisions of my novel on Friday. I have so many dustbunnies in my house because all I've been doing is writing!
ReplyDelete126,000 plus words in total, and now I hear 90,000 is considered the limit for first novels. I refuse to be deflated by this.
I finished!
Wow - that's awesome! Way to go!!
ReplyDeleteOh how fun! Good luck! I love getting to the end. Love it!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Melissa!
Atta girl, Melissa! I so admire your spunk and determination. You are an inspiration and I can't wait to read your book when it is done.
ReplyDeleteYay Melissa! That is great! I'm so excited for you to finish. Editing is where the real story comes out. Great job and congrats!
ReplyDeleteWhoo-hoo, Melissa! This is what makes all the dreary drudgery writing days worth it. Savor your accomplishment!
ReplyDeleteAnd, I'm with you--I look at revising as my reward for toughing it through the first draft. You're almost there!
