Ready to Write

I think the prep work for the editing of my novel is complete. I knew I had to get a few things nailed down before I even thought of diving into the manuscript, but now, the time has come.

It's time to edit.

I'm trying to decide whether to edit on my laptop so that I can lounge on the couch or the recliner or just confine myself to the desk. The laptop is currently winning the race because let's face it - I sit at a desk all day for work. It would be nice to put my feet up and relax while I dive into the manuscript.

I'm looking forward to it because I have a game plan. Before, I felt as though I were flailing in a churning ocean. I know what to look for, what needs fixing, what needs tweaked, etc. I also feel I've had sufficient time away from the manuscript to approach it with a more critical eye.

Will the upcoming holiday affect my editing? It shouldn't, especially since the decorating is done and I have discovered the wonders of online shopping!

  2. Have fun with it, Melissa, but be firm with yourself. It's easy to be distracted with so much to do. Or at least that's what I'm finding. ;)

  4. Hope the editing goes well! I usually do a combination of things and just move things around with my memory key. That helps me keep things backed up too!

  6. Oh, you'll do just fine. I think sometimes time away from the ms is the best plan.

  7. I edited my first novel on my computer. My second was printed and taken with me. I enjoy printing the manuscript. I seem to work faster.

Of course, I still have to type in corrections, but at least the hard work is done.

  9. Good for you. Yep, I vote for the laptop too. I find when I'm comfortable, it's easier to get into the zone.

  10. I used to have a company laptop, and I vote laptop also. I wore the letters off the keys of that thing...those were the days...

  11. Yeah, I'd vote laptop too.

    Good luck with the editing.

  12. Good luck with the revisions. I say go with whatever you feel like. I know some days I'd rather sit on the couch with the alphie rather than the computer, and other days it flips.

  13. I love kicking back too.

Until I'm so comfortable that I start falling asleep. Dang!

  14. I always have to edit on a hard copy and then put the corrections in. I can't edit on the screen -- it comes out too disjointed.

    Have fun!
