The Chronicles of Narnia

It's rare that I sit to watch a movie and fail to realize how much time has passed by. But that's exactly what happened last night when my daughter and I watched The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

I've never read this book by C.S. Lewis - I'm not sure how I passed it by growing up, but suffice to say that I hope my daughter will read the series some day. We absolutely loved this movie. Both of us were completely enthralled. We laughed, and we cried our eyes out, but in the end, we gave it two thumbs up.

Since my daughter loves the big cats, the fact that the Lion was a major character in this movie overjoyed her. She loved to see a talking lion. If only I could find one of those for Christmas...

  1. We had to go to the theater for this one -- I love C.S Lewis. And now my 9yo has read the whole series. I love any story that makes my kids want to read.

  2. My daughter and I missed this one. I don't know why or how. Guess I'll have to look it up.
I am, however, familiar with the movie that tells about the real-life marriage of the author, C.S. Lewis, to his American wife, Joy. "Shadowland" is the title, and I cried my eyes out at that one. I think you'd like it, Melissa.

  3. I only read the first book as a kid, but several times so I LOVED seeing it brought to life last year. My mum went with Sean and me and she laughed till she cried when she saw the beavers in their armour *g*.

  4. I picked up the book after seeing the movie. It is wonderful. The Magician's Nephew (prequel) is brilliant as well.

Both books taught me that youth fiction can be brief, move quickly, yet be rich and full of joy.

One Day at a Time

I've always tried to live with this mentality: One day at a time. Unfortunately, when I implement it, I fail spectacularly. But for this...
