Just A Bit of Snow...Please?

Monday we were supposed to get a big snow storm. The weather service issued a winter storm watch and I was excited as could be at the prospect of the white stuff on the ground. Well, as the evening wore on, they canceled the storm watch, but said we still had a pretty darn good chance (I'd say 80% is pretty darn good, wouldn't you?) of getting snow.

The wind howled all night long, waking both my daughter and I up, and I peered outside to see if it had snowed yet. Nothing. I went back to sleep, confident I'd open my eyes and see that pure, crystal blanket of snow.

No such luck.

Now, I'll be the first to say that I don't like driving in snow and ice. It can be terribly dangerous if you aren't paying attention and don't know what you're doing, much less worrying about the other people around you who aren't paying attention and think that yakking on their cell phones is perfectly appropriate at a time like this (I cannot even begin to count how many times I have seen this!).

But really...just a bit of snow. I'll take an inch. Enough to coat the ground and cover up the grass. Enough to really put me in the Christmas spirit. Please?

  1. Hey, friend, I'd share some of the sneaux we're getting here in Louisiana, but since we only get it about once every two decades, I'm gonna be greedy! :)

Don't forget to come vote for your own (or someone else's) Christmas tree in my contest today!

  2. I'm with you! Everyone thinks England gets snow and it's SO NOT true! I want snow too! So let's both cross our fingers!

  3. We had a couple of inches two days ago but it's all gone now.

  4. I've never had a white Christmas that I can recall (it might have snowed in New Mexico, but I don't remember) and I'm fine with that. However, we are getting a storm in this weekend that is supposed to be pretty cold which will mean we will get snow in the mountains. That's where I like it. Very pretty to look at with out the cold part.

  5. There is something special about freshly fallen snow right at the holidays. I hope you get some, too!

  6. While driving home from work Tuesday I think, I looked over to see a gal on her phone. I recognized her and waved at her but she didn't see me. I would have honked but my horn is broken. Do you remember this Melissa? No, probably not, you didn't see me you were on the phone : )

  7. Calfee, you better get your eyes checked 'cuz that wasn't me! ;-)

  8. LOL - I did drive by you about 3 times now after work and every time you are just looking straight ahead. I can't ever get your attention! Or you are just ignoring me!

  9. Same thing happened here - A few days ago, the weather people predicted a nor'easter for tomorrow with our first measurable snow. Now, it's all been changed, to rain. :(

  10. I hope you get some!

Ours has almost all gone now, but I've heard we 'might' be getting more at the weekend. Fingers crossed. Yes, it's not good for driving on, but it is so gorgeous...

  11. Oh how disappointing, I do hope you get some soon. We've only had a few hail showers here, and don't get snow that often, unfortunately.

  12. We're similarly snowless here and were promised some last night. Hope we ALL get some soon :)

  13. We're keeping our fingers crossed here...Arctic front moving in, 40% chance of snow Saturday. I hope so! We've got two weeks until Christmas, I hope you get snow before then...

  14. We got some snow days ago and it's stayed cold and so the snow is still here. It's pretty :)

  15. Angie - Naw, you go ahead and keep that snow since it's so rare. :)

Giddy - I think certain parts of England get snow, but others don't! One of my other friends who lives in England always laments that she moved to the only village in Yorkshire with no snow!

Travis - Bummer. Unless you wanted it to be gone that fast. ;-)

Rene, I cannot imagine what it would be like to not have had a white Christmas. Just totally foreign concept to me.

Janna - Snow is more special around the holidays than it is in say, January or February, that's for sure!

Heather, let's keep our fingers crossed!

Joanne - Ugh. I bet weathermen really get a lot of grief when they're wrong. ;-)

Shirley - It's gone already? Well, hope you get some more!

Debs - I don't think I could live in a place that didn't have snow. I would dearly miss it.

    Tess - Agreed!

Christine - I hope we get snow, too! Even if it just turns cold and it stays on the ground for two weeks, that's fine with me. Just want some for Christmas!

    Lisa - Lucky girl!

  16. The amount of snow we (don't) get, I'd be as happy with just a flurry that stuck for a short while, instead of fat, wet flakes that melt as soon as they hit the ground.

  17. I remember that exciting feeling of waking up to some snow...but not anymore!:)) I do enjoy a good dreary day now and then. I hope you get some by Christmas! Seems like so many other places are now.

  18. Diane - Totally agree. I just want SOMETHING at this point!

Terri - Yes, lots of other places (even Louisiana!) are getting snow and we're not! Very weird, since Nebraska is usually hard-hit with the white stuff.

    Snow here...head north!!!

  20. Toni - You're getting it in the north and they're getting in the south (Louisiana). I'm just in the wrong spot, I guess!
