I Can't Think of a Catchy Title

I really can't. I sat here for awhile, trying to come up with something snappy and original. Nothing appeared.

I have been writing, though. A page last night and about three pages on Sunday. I felt like I was getting into murky waters Sunday night, though. Thankfully, Rene helped me out with a quick brainstorm sesson yesterday. Thank you, Rene!!! :-)

I wasn't a happy camper last night. I kept thinking, ugh. Have to get up and go to work in the morning. I don't wanna!!!

It's not that I don't like my job. I do. But I'm very tired of the daily grind. I hate the running around in the morning and having little time at night to do much of anything. I know I've groused about this before, but the fact that it keeps coming up is a warning sign for me. I can't fall into the trap of dreading the next day. I don't want to live my life like that. So it's either buckle down and deal with things as they are right now or find a solution.

At this point in time, I need the job. It's a good job. Afterall, I write all day long! But I hate that my daughter has to be in daycare before and after school and that my stepson has to sometimes stay in the office with me because we live in a different district than the school he goes to and he can't ride the bus home. I'd like to get off at 3 p.m., pick up the kids, and go home. Every day. And then work two hours at home. At least I'd be able to throw in a load of laundry or do the dishes, and my children would be able to have more time to relax. That still wouldn't take care of the morning drive, but it might lessen the stress a little.

I doubt this will happen, but you never know. I might just make the request. It's like the lottery - you can't win until you play. :-)

  1. I don't know how working moms/writers do it. Seriously. You have my respect.

  2. And I didn't mean to imply that stay-at-home moms don't work. I KNOW they do.

  3. Rachel - I've done both and to tell you the truth, I'm not sure which one is harder. If I could just have a combination of both, I'd be happy. :-)

  4. I know the feeling. There is so much stress to get ready for the day, it can really bring down your mood. It would be nice to have a combo day and you might ask your boss if you could work something out, even if it were for a couple of days a week.

Sorry about the job situation! That's tough. Today when I was home with my sick boy, it occurred to me HOW MUCH I was getting done on the writing front. Unbelievable. Just having uninterrupted time while he was napping made such a difference. It's so much harder when you work full time.

I really hear you on juggling. I have two young children myself. Pushing the clock at night doens't help either. If I stay up too late, my attention and productivity for the next day is shot.

  9. Rene, that's a good idea to ask for maybe a few days off a week to work at home.

Michelle - isn't it amazing what you can do when you have all that time? But OTOH, I used to be a SAHM and had more time to write, but I wasn't getting near as much done. Weird.

Dana - I've been praying a lot lately. It's not that I don't love my job - I really do - I am just tired of the rushing around.

Jason - I usually stretch my bedtime to 11 p.m. just to catch another hour of time for myself, whether that's writing or reading. But I pay for it in the morning! Thanks for linking to my site!

  10. Maybe if you ask you can get your wish!! I'm a SAHM and it is HARD. But I bet it would be even harder if I added the daily juggle of working outside the home with everything else!!

  11. God do I hear you on the daily grind. I SO did not want to go to work today. I was in a total groove writing and it killed me to leave it. I grumbled the whole way, then cursed some more when I heard we were getting 15 cm of snow overnight so I"ll have to shovel before I can go to work tomorrow...sigh...oh how I wish I could write full time.

  12. Mel - hope you find a solution!! I've been lucky the last few years, not having to deal with the grind. But I do remember that feeling. And we didn't have kids!!

  13. Toni, I still think being a SAHM is THE toughest job out there. You don't get a break - it's 24-7. No weekends off!

Kelly - No snow here. I miss it, though. It's January in Nebraska and we have no snow. Very odd.

Tess - I hope a solution presents itself sooner rather than later.

The worst that can happen is that they say no, right? *g*

  15. Sharon, you're absolutely right. It's just getting the nerve to do it in the first place that has me a bit terrified.
