Planning the Vacation

After traveling to England last October, the traveling bug has bit me full force. I've decided to give myself the gift of vacationing at least once a year (if I can afford it!). And this year, I've chosen Colonial Williamsburg.

I have always, always wanted to visit this place. I've also wished I could work there! My love for Revolutionary War history has always been strong. The birth of our nation is a compelling story and I originally wanted to study it when I went to graduate school. Then I decided to focus on World War II. But I've still got a bookshelf full of books on the American Revolution.

So my next destination will be Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Jamestown. And this time, I've invited my mother to come along. I have a feeling we will have a blast since she loves this time period, too.

Have you ever been to Colonial Williamsburg? What was your experience? If you haven't visited, do you ever have any interest in going there?

  1. Have never been, but it sounds like a great vacation destination. And how fun is that to take a road trip with Mom! Lots of good memories in the making!

  2. We have been (2005) and I want to return in 2009 or 2010 if I can talk DH into going. He is a "been there, done that" kind of person. It was sort of "off" season when we were there. The good thing was smaller crowds; the bad thing was less going on and some things closed. I did love the horse and carriage ride although it was a very short trip.

As history buffs, you and your mom will love it!

    Have a safe trip,
    Joy

  3. I lived there for 3 mos. when I was in college. It was through a study program through another university. I had a blast...except for the snow. It snowed like crazy. I also went the next spring and was amazed at how beautiful it was. Love the taverns. Spent way too much time there.

  4. Went on a family vacation eons ago, so I probably wasn't old enough to appreciate the historical aspects. Glad you're making your dream come true!

  11. Oh yeah, I'd LOVE to visit there. Very cool looking place and with lots of great resources for the historian. They also have a fantastic website. Sean would love it as well - all we need is the time and the $$$!
