The Good Ol' Days

A little more than ten years ago, I graduated from college (undergrad). I wish I could go back for a few weeks and not worry about marriage or mortgages or student loans or...*gasp* gaining weight.

Wish I had that figure back, too!

This is me and one of my best friends in college. We still stay in touch, but it's nothing like it used to be. He's married, has kids, I'm married, have kids, and well, we're both doing the whole "adult" thing. They say that your college years are some of the best of your life. I tend to agree.

The Top 10 Things I Miss About College

1) Ditching class and sleeping in (which I didn't do too often)

2) Wednesday night "history club" meetings at the bar

3) Staying up late because I could

4) Wild excursions out to the country for the evening's "big" party or being otherwise completely spontaneous

5) Ok, I don't necessarily miss this, but I'm glad I did it a few times - being the designated driver.

6) All my friends were right there - not scattered across the entire USA like they are now

7) Eating whatever I wanted without having to worry about gaining weight

8) Wearing whatever I wanted because everything fit perfectly! (dang, I miss being a size 7)

9) Hanging out with friends. Whenever. Wherever.

10) Independence.

What do you miss about college?

    Nothing.

Going to NYU was very different than going to a regular college. It was an intense, conservatory atmosphere, like paying to go to work.

Plus, most of those things on your list? I live like that anyway -- that's why I'm a freelancer! ;)

  4. All that extra TIME to actually CHOOSE what you might want to do the next day, night, weekend.
With kids, a family, and a career, who has any time these days?
    Sigh. Oh well.

  5. I loved college! In fact, I loved it so much, that when things get really hectic I'll dream that I'm back in college, wondering what I'm so stressed about. ;)

I miss: being 5 minutes from the beach, going to class- I loved class, no bills to pay, having the freedom to pull an all-nighter if need be and then TAKE A NAP the next day - and all my friends. I had a group of five very fun guys that I hung out with all the time. I was Elaine. ;) So, so much fun!

Plus, I was an English major - and all that time to read, write, and think about reading and writing was heavenly!

I could go on forever - but I'll also say the semester I spent in England was nothing to sneeze at either. ;)

  6. Hey someone else went to NYU? I was a commuter for college since I lived in NY, but I have to say I loved the NYU library. It is a beautiful building. And I loved hanging out late and going to eat with my friends at all the great ethnic eating establishments that we would scope out for cheapest and best eats. Those were the days!
