A la Peanut Butter Sandwiches!

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed watching clips of Sesame Street over the weekend. I'd forgotten about Mumford the Magician and his "magic words." Unfortunately, I've never liked peanut butter sandwiches. *grin*

Had a rather relaxing weekend. Writing was half-way productive, too. My local RWA chapter did a BIAW challenge and I managed to come in under just 7,000 words for the whole week. Not too bad! Also watched Charlotte Gray with Cate Blanchett and Billy Crudup. Can I just say one thing about this movie?

AMAZING.

WONDERFUL.

Okay, that's TWO things, but it deserves it. I don't know why I didn't hear of this movie when it was released. And in this instance, I can say that it was much better than the book. I tried to read the book that the movie was based on before I watched the movie, but I honestly couldn't get through it. But there comes a time when you have to look at your to-be-read pile and decide not to waste your time on a book that isn't holding your interest.

But the movie...ah, yes, the movie. The plot for this movie is the same kind of plot I want to write in my books. Very well done, IMO. And yes, it's a World War II flick. ;-)

Has there ever been an instance where you liked the movie better than the book?

  1. Ooohhh I really wanted to see this movie and then totally forgot about it. I'll have to go put it on hold at the library.

  2. I could not get into the book--didn't want to say that earlier so as not to bias you LOL. The film is wonderful isn't it? Must watch it again.

  3. Somebody else just asked this question and I thought no but then Shelli Stevens reminded me of Bridget Jones' Diary. Could not get into the book. Could NOT. Gave up.

Decided to watch the movie. LOVED IT. A rare instance for me to prefer a movie over a book.

Sounds like you had a nice weekend. :)

  4. Um, yes. Beloved. I liked the book too, but I liked the movie better, because they saved the big revelation for the end. In the book, you knew what had happened from near the beginning.

Also, "Shawshank Redemption." I liked that one in print too, but it was short. A novella. I got through it too quickly. The movie was nice and long. And very well-done.

  5. Only because of little things. I liked the (original) movie The Haunting more than the book The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson because in the movie they changed a character a little and made her more sympathetic. Same with Stephen King's Cujo, liked the ending in the movie a lot better than the book. I know there are more, but I just can't think of them right now - oh, wait - TV, not movie - but I liked Nancy Drew in the books a lot more than in the old TV series.

Must look into this movie - it sounds right up my alley too.

  6. Practical Magic. The book was uneven, imo. I loved Charlotte Gray. I love basically everything with Cate Blanchett, but she smoked everyone else in that movie.

  7. Hmmm, can't think of any right now, but I'm sure there are some.

I really liked the movie, though it's a little spoiled now after I heard about Billy Crudup walking out on his 8 months pregnant wife, Mary Louise Parker a couple of years back. Very classy. Not.

Still, it's a movie I'd like to have on DVD :-)

  8. Tess - I remember that happening although I didn't make the connection until AFTER I watched the movie. That was a crummy thing that he did to his wife. So glad I don't live in the land of Hollywood.
