Boxes and Books

I made an executive decision this weekend. In the midst of packing, I realized that most of my boxes contained my extensive book collection. And if I'm honest with myself, I haven't cracked open some of those books for years - literally. But my whole argument with myself has been, You might need it someday.

Well, after moving them from place to place for too many times to count, I've decided to get rid of some of them. Of course, this only means I'm making room for new books, right? ;-)

My apartment is a complete disaster right now - boxes stacked by the front door, a path made in between all the stuff waiting to be packed, and just general disarray. I hate living like this, but I guess there's nothing to be done about it but endure and get through it.

I did take a four hour nap today - not what I wanted to do on a Saturday afternoon, but maybe that means I'll be able to stay up a little later and work on my novel. I need to get it finished - maybe I can accomplish that this weekend.

The weather is finally staying cool - no more 80's and 90's temps for us, thank goodness. I do get tired of that. I'd much rather have the 50's and 60's like we're having now.

Hope you're all having a relaxing weekend. :-)

When I moved from MI to NC, I donated most of my books to a retirement community--it's a tax writeoff, and most of those facilities don't get new material very often! Now that I have more square footage, I'm starting to collect again, lol.

  2. I had a bunch of textbooks from college that I was saving because, you know, I might need them someday. THen I realized I'd graduated over 15 years ago. The books are completely out of date. I also realize I have "What to Expect When You're Expecting" in my bookshelf. I can guarantee I'll never look at that book again!

  3. Why do we do that? For me, I think books are my security blanket. Every now and then I do give some to charity shops - or rather I get hubby to take them for me!

I hope you're managing to get lots of writing done this weekend.

  4. I did the same thing - hauled boxes around move after move not wanting to get rid of those books...

Went through them after Xmas last year and got rid of a ton and kept the "keepers." You can do it!! And you'll feel better once they're all cleaned up.

  5. I'm starting to wonder if it might be time for another cull of my own collection.

Good luck. And remember, if it turns out you really do need one of them later, chances are you can find a copy again.

  6. I napped on Sat afternoon too :-) ANd I know what you mean about getting rid of some books. Sean and I purged quite a few from our collection before moving out here. As it is, we still have 39 boxes of them in storage!!!
