More Snow???

I had a feeling we were in for a harsh winter since our summer was so mild. I can count on one hand how many times the temperature hit 100 degrees, and that is pretty unheard of for Nebraska.

Our schools have already had four snow days - and today is one of them. If there's one thing that can make your kid happy in the morning, it's telling them "snow day!" We're in for another big winter storm and the snow is already falling.

I remember when I was a kid, we used to have giant blizzards. My two brothers and I loved snow days back then since we lived on a farm and the possibilities of sledding were endless. This invariably involved pulling the sled with the pick-up or the three-wheeler, the dogs nipping at our feet. Warming up in the kitchen afterwards with a hot mug of apple cider or hot cocoa with cinnamon bread was the perfect way to spend the day. I'd usually curl up in a blanket on the recliner with a good book and sigh in utter contentment.

Nowadays, snow days aren't nearly as fun for me. Why? Because I have to work. That alone sucks all the joy out of it!

  1. Hey little snow angel!! looks like we are two peas in a pod right now with the snows. Get the fire going and treat yourself to some mulled wine as you watch those flakes flutter down :)

  2. Oh Paddy, I wish I could right now, but looks like it will have to wait until the day job is over!

  3. Is it just our adult perspective, or were the snow days worse when we were kids? It sure seems so. We get a couple inches here now and the state just about closes down. Yet those old home movies show mountains of snow we got through as kids. Anyway, enjoy :)

I'd forgotten about Snow Days. I love snow days. Well, I did. Now I have to do grown up work stuff too. =[

  6. There's just so much expectation and potential with snow days, huh? We had an early dismissal, and it's been coming down steadily for three hours now. Don't know what we'll do with ourselves, but I'm looking forward to finding out. :)

  9. Hope you were able to curl up and read for at least a while :) I remember toboganning not far from our home when we were kids...no snow here at all this winter.

  10. I think I may have more annual leave days than you, so I'm so far ok with snow stopping work, AND I can do some work at home.

Sorry you're not enjoying it, though. :o(

  11. I think snow days should automatically include anyone who has to drive to work - even if that drive is on mass transit. I mean really...it's just not safe out there, right? They're putting our lives in peril! There should be a bill passed, or something. Oh, I miss snow days...

And I hear you on the snow days--much more fun for the kids than for me now...

  15. Snow Days must be a very American thing (I'm on the Scottish borders! just across the pond). But it sounds lovely. The idea of lounging around in Jammies or Jim-Jams, hot chocolate, a good book, fav music, open fire..etc, just sounds like what the doctor ordered. I must try it..!! Right, off to battle with more snow at this end, work calls :) hope you had a lovely time Melissa. P x
