Ahh...Fall and Food!

There's more to love about fall than just the cooler temperatures. It's also the time to start thinking about all the yummy foods associated with autumn!

And one of my absolute favorites is chili and cinnamon rolls.

I think I first tasted this wonderful combination during school lunch. Now, I went to a small school. To give you an idea of just how small, my hometown barely has 1,600 people. And I suppose that could account for just how wonderful our school food was. To this day, I can still remember the dishes our cooks prepared and my mouth waters. Yes, it was that good. One of their specialities was homemade chili and cinnamon rolls. Honest to goodness homemade cinnamon rolls.

Talk about delicious. Those ladies knew how to make cinnamon rolls. Gooey insides with loads of icing and cinnamon...oh man. And then to go along with it, a steaming bowl of chili with lots of saltine crackers stirred in. It was the perfect meal.

It's a meal I still love to eat during the fall and winter months. In fact, I can't wait to make me a pot of chili and cook up a batch of cinnamon rolls, then curl under a blanket on the couch with a good book. What could be better?

What are your favorite fall foods?

  2. Yum! Sounds wonderful. With your leftover chili, break out a bag of small Fritos, glop on chili, add shredded cheese and nuke. Mmmm. Frito Pie!

My favorite fall comfort foods are hotdogs and homemade fries. I know that's drab, but my twin and I had it on our birthday every year except this, prepared by our mom before she got sick.

Others: chicken & sausage gumbo, spaghetti casserole, pasta-laya, my Dad's homemade Italian bread....I could go on and on. Love dat food!

  3. Anything that slow cooks, filling the house with a delicious aroma, enticing you to curl up beneath a blanket after raking the leaves, cool weather outside the windows ... a chicken roasting, vegetable soup simmering, lasagna baking. Love fall!

  5. Tess - Y'know, I don't think I'ver ever made homemade mac n' cheese. It's always been out of a box. :-) You should send me your recipe!

Angie - Sounds like you're an Italian family! If so, then we have lots more in common than just writing!

Joanne - Ahhh...you just described the PERFECT day! And I LOVE lasagna, too, but can have it any time of year. In fact, I just made a batch last week and it was YUMMY.

Kacey - But the real question is, will you have cinnamon rolls with your chili? ;-)
