All I Want for Christmas...

All I want for Christmas is a week of uninterrupted writing time.

Yeah, I don't think I'll get it either! But I can dream...

Last night I finished up my Christmas tree and it looked perfect. Unfortunately, when I woke up, it was far from it. Miss Gretchen, my prim and proper kitty, decided to have a little fun with my decorations. I was not happy. But maybe I can get out the ol' squirt gun over the weekend and keep her away from it, and the discipline will carry through during the work week when I'm not at home!

I also watched Pirates of the Carribbean 3. Let me just say one thing - the first Pirates movie is, in my estimation, the absolute best of the three and I would have been perfectly content if they'd just made that one movie. I found the other two (especially the third one) to be lacking the magic of the first.

But that's just me. Others will, no doubt, disagree with me and that's fine. I was just extremely disappointed in the ending. The writer in me was literally yelling at the t.v. Ah well.

Today is also the 66th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor - December 7, 1941.

It's also Friday, the best day of the week! Hope you have a good one!

  1. As a general rule I tend to dislike movie sequels. They never seem to live up to my expectations.

Books are different though. And I'm really hoping Rhett Butler's People is good. It's calling to me from my TBR pile.

So sorry to hear of the shootings in Omaha. What a horrible, horrible thing to have happen.

  3. I'd lost track of the date and only realized this morning that it was the 7th. So I'll be watching "Tora, Tora, Tora" this afternoon.

I have Pirates 2 on top of the entertainment center - I borrowed it from Bebo because I hadn't seen it and wanted to before seeing Pirates 3. I still want to see all of them.

  4. December 7th is such a pivotal day in my novel and yet I completely forgot until you mentioned it. Life overwhelms at times. And yes I agree that the first was the best and should probably have been the last, although any excuse to watch Johnny is fine with me too.

  5. Yes, I was disappointed with Pirates 2 and so far have resisted no 3.

Tinker snuck her way onto the windowsill earlier. I thought she wanted to look out the window so helped her out a bit (the tree's in the way). But no. She wanted to play with a particular bauble on the tree that she could just see through the crack in the curtain if she looked back into the room ... Holly was content to roll on her back beneath the table the tree's on and play with a pen.

    Melissa,
I read a comment you left in response to the PBS show 'They Drew Fire'. You mentioned you'd like to get some of the prints seen in that show. I came across about 50 of these in an estate sale. They are in great shape and are dated 1945. I'm considering putting them up on ebay, but thought I'd try another route first. If interested e-mail me at eightfishies@sbcglobal.net.
    Thanks!

  8. Me, too. Loved Pirates 1. Pirates 2 was a big ol' stanker. So devoid of interest, tension, and chemistry between the leads, I slept through parts of it and wished I'd slept through the rest. I have no desire whatsoever to see Pirates 3.

We're mulling whether a Christmas tree might survive our newest kitty...he only has 3 legs, but he uses them extremely well.

Since I thought the first movie had some clever moments, but wasn't thrilled with it altogether, now I know I can skip the other two.

The way I keep the kitties out of the tree is to have special stuffed ornaments on the bottom branches that they can play with, and toys that come out once a year at Christmas under the tree. They're so pleased with that, they leave the rest alone.

Iris sometimes removes ornaments if they dangle over the portion of under-tree space she likes to sleep, but other than that, they no longer climb the tree or strip it.

  10. Missy,

I'm saying a prayer for you that you get a week of uninterrupted writing time for Christmas. What a great gift that would be and in my opinion, a far more valuable one than any type of physical trinket.

Sorry to hear about your Christmas tree. Cats definitely have some type of calling/obsession to take the most beautifully decorated tree and obliterate it within a matter of seconds. I used to have a cat that would regularly run and jump almost to the perfect epicenter of the tree (maybe it was for leverage) and pull it down to the ground. Then he started chewing on the glass ornaments. Not a terribly bright cat, especially when he took a tumble in the dryer, but that's another story.

I'm in complete agreement with you on the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN movie trilogy. The first one was one of the most fun, entertaining movies I'd seen in years. The second one was okay, but a bit of a disappointment. The third one, well, the writing in that one left a lot to be desired for me. There are some Hollywood franchises that should forever remain just a good idea, and this was one of those franchises.

Hope you had a great Friday!
