Back to the Gym I Go!

Tomorrow, it will be two weeks since my surgery. In that two weeks, I went from barely being able to move, to slowly walking, to finally, finally, feeling like myself again. I haven't felt like myself in a month!

I took two short walks over the weekend because we had such beautiful weather, but I've been careful not to push myself until I heard from my doctor that exercise was, indeed, officially back on the schedule.

Today, I went in for my post-op check-up and things are good. Doc gave me the "all-clear" to begin exercising again, and I can't wait to hit the gym. I plan to take things slow, though.

And with a return to my normal schedule also comes a return to my writing. I got a bit of writing done over the weekend and even looked at one of my other works-in-progress that I abandoned a few months ago. I saw it with new eyes. It has definite potential.

It appears that nature has decided to join me in getting back on schedule. We have flowers blooming everywhere, trees budding, and warm temperatures perfect for long walks.

Have you ever been knocked off your schedule for awhile? How did you get back to it?

Great photo - love the colors - so glad you can work out at the gym again and take walks also:-)

As for schedules, seems I don't stay on one for long - something is always interrupting whatever I had planned - so I have just learned to go with the flow and live God's plans for my day:-)

So glad you're feeling better and back in the swing of things. When I fall out of the swing, I try to reevaluate my joy and where it's best found. Sometimes, it means I just have to push through until I rediscover it.

  6. Well, I have surgery scheduled for next week and all I can think about is how it's gonna throw off my wordcount goals. ;) I'll let you know how I got back on my schedule if and when it happens - because I know for sure I'm about to get thrown!

  7. Glad to year you're getting back to your norm! As for getting back on schedule, I'm all about calendars and lists. There'd probably be some sort of spreadsheet involved too. Maybe a graph or two...

  8. It took me a good couple months after my surgery to get back into the swing of things. It's nice to hear you're recovering so easily!

  10. I get thrown off my schedule a lot. Military life does that.

How do I get back on it? Time and being stubborn about sticking to it.

I have lists, and calendars. Flylady is also very helpful! (www.flylady.net)

  11. So glad to hear you're feeling better and ready to tackle everything again!

As for me, well, I got knocked off my gym schedule two years ago...and I still haven't gotten back on! I'm still trying to figure out a good way to motivate myself.

  12. Erika - Thanks for dropping by! I love your blog. You're an inspiration!

Terri - I can't tell you how good it feels not to be in pain anymore. I think it was a good month or so that I felt unwell!

Mom - I know what you mean about schedules being interrupted. It happens to me all too often, too.

L.T. - What a good idea, to evaluate your joy and where it's found. I need to remember that!

Midlife - That makes a lot of sense - a new normal. I like that. :-)

Robin - Oh no! I hope it's nothing serious! Hugs...

Kelly - I wish I could be more that way with lists and spreadsheets and such, but I've come to the conclusion I am much WORSE if I try and stick to things like that!

    T. Anne - Fortunately, the procedure was minimally invasive. My incisions from the laparascopy have healed up quite nicely, so I'm happy. :-)

Shirley - I am all about taking it easy. :-) My daughter and I took a nice, long walk last night, though, and it felt wonderful!

Meg - I checked out Fly Lady a few years ago but it was too rigid for me to follow. I am never good at programs like that. But I say that if it works for you, go for it!

Christina - I'm a little worried about my gym schedule since it is closing at the end of the month. However, I did just score a treadmill for free and I don't mind using one, so I'm hoping I can make the transition from gym to home treadmill!
