Why I Like John Wayne

I just bought three John Wayne movies on Amazon.com. Last weekend, I watched two John Wayne movies. I know that he is a huge American icon for so many reasons, but I have another, more personal reason.

He reminds me of my beloved grandfather, who I lost in August of '08.

Anyone else see a resemblance, or is it just me? But it's more than looks. My grandfather was a hero to me in a lot of ways, and John Wayne plays the American hero in nearly all his movies.

I miss you, Grandpa. I hope you and John Wayne are friends in heaven!

  1. I didn't begin to appreciate the Duke until later in life, and now I love watching his movies. Maybe it's because I'm getting older, but also because I'm appreciating Westerns more now. I definitely think there is a resemblance between him and your grandfather. What a nice post!

You grandfather looks charming, indeed! And I actually like a lot of John Wayne movies. My father loves them. My favorite is McClintock. It's silly and fun. =]

  5. I have to admit I've never seen a John Wayne movie, although I've seen lots of Westerns. (I'm a Gary Cooper gal myself.) But I've had The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance in my Netflix queue for forever. Maybe it's time to move it up. :)

Your grandfather looks like a man of great character...and the resemblance is definitely there!
