Female Fun

When I say "fun", there should be a big, flashing red sign that reads,"SARCASM."

Finally, after two tests (one which required drinking barium sulfate which, if you've ever done, you know how simply awful it tastes. If you haven't drank it before, consider yourself fortunate. VERY fortunate), two blood draws, one IV, and way too much pain, the verdict has finally been reached.

A ruptured ovarian cyst is responsible for this last week of hell.

To say I am relieved to have an answer is an understatement. When my doctor told me the diagnosis, I also can't say I was shocked that one of these darn ovarian cysts I have finally ruptured on me. (I have PCOS). I didn't think a ruptured cyst had caused all that pain, but now that I know, it makes sense.

All I can say is, thank the Lord for the medical community, for having these tests that can (usually) find what's wrong, and for leading us on the path to healing. I know that in researching my symptoms, I drove myself nuts trying to figure out what was wrong with me. I don't think there's any way I could be a doctor!

For myself, I am feeling much better, thank goodness. I'm anxious to get back into my writing, though I have been keeping quite a detailed journal lately of everything I've been going through. It's helped a lot.

I'm not quite back to 100% yet, but I am hopeful that is just around the corner. In the meantime, I am planning to have a relaxing, stress-free, and hopefully very productive writing weekend!

  1. I'm glad that figured out what happened!

I've never had the, uh, misfortune of having to drink that stuff. My sister has, she barely managed to gag it all down.

Have a nice and relaxing weekend!

  4. So relieved you now have a diagnosis and that you're on the mend, despite having to swallow that dreadful concoction.

  5. Oh the 'relief' Melissa! The things that must have been reeling through your mind, you poor thing. I am so, SO HAPPY for you, that it has been diagnosed and can be treated now, and your pain eased :)
You darling girl, you've really been put through the wars recently, haven't you. P x

  6. You must be so relieved to finally know what was causing the pain. Can they fix it? Will it go away by itself? When do you go back to work? Good news, though - I thought it would be (one of my "feelings").

  9. Christine - EXACTLY. I was worried there for a bit!

Debs - I'm glad that it's all over. Drinking that stuff was worse than the actual test. :-)

Paddy - Yes, it has been a struggle lately. Had that bad cold a few weeks ago, then this! I am hoping I can stay well for awhile. :-) Thanks for the hugs and love!

Diane - I get cysts on my ovaries all the time. Usually they go away (and I'm on medication for my PCOS), but sometimes, they can rupture without you even knowing they are there. I'm not ready to get rid of my ovaries yet...but will have to seriously think on it for the future.

Fran - Aw, thank you! It's true I haven't felt very bright recently!

Jody - Yeah, I didn't want to put all my symptoms on my FB - that would have been TMI! ;-) Thanks for the good wishes.

  21. Melissa, somehow I missed this post when it first arrived - I'm sorry I didn't pass along my support right away. I'm so glad you were able to find out what it is. as for having Ovarian cysts all the time, I don't know how you can handle that. I was told I had one about a year ago and I about drove myself crazy until all the tests came back and showed it had gone away. I'm relieved that the mystery has been solved for you - now on to the writing!
