It's Time

I've done the research (though I will probably have to do more), the plotting, and the character sketches. My mind feels in the zone.

It's time to write.

The character who appeared in my mind's eye a few months ago has now been fleshed out. She has a name, a job. She has dreams and goals, wants and desires. And she's about to land in a situation that will test her to her ultimate abilities.

Already, I can't wait to start typing, to start crafting and forming her world.

It's been far too long since I immersed myself in a character's world. A month, perhaps more? No wonder my moods have ebbed and flowed. I haven't been doing what I love.

Are you doing what you love?

  1. I'm trying! If only there were more hours in the day...or less hours in the day job (with the same amount of pay of course!)

  2. Oh, that darn day job. I completely hear ya. I wish I could work less, too...yet still make the same money.

  3. Sitting down to write as we speak...so yes, doing what I love.

    Happy writing to you!

  5. Yes, I am. I'm glad it's cold and snowy January, too, and that I'm back into the writing routine after the holiday interruption :)

  11. Debs - one of the best feelings in the world, isn't it? :-)

  12. I'm into another WIP, got back to 7K and I am in LOVE. Wish I didn't have to participate in the real world and could write all day and all night. Opps, that sounds obessive. Perhaps because it is? ;)

  13. T. Anne, nothing wrong with being obsessive over your writing! I realized this morning that I kept getting lost in my thoughts for my WIP - not a good thing when you're driving!

Love that infatuation stage where everything looks so shiny and exciting!

I'm in the please-let-these-plots-tie-together stage where it's a little more head-banging. But still fun! Still doing what I love. Good luck and enjoy!!!

  15. Sharla - unfortunately, doing what we love isn't always easy. But I guess if you'd still rather be doing it than anything else, you're on the right track. :-)

  16. I find it very inspiring that all the people here *(above), are so self motivated and focused on doing something they love (writing). Right now, I'm like one of those seagulls one sees bobbing out in the ocean, with the little unseen feet paddling furiously away! At some point (soon, I hope), I'll stretch my wings and take flight. I personally am not a novel/story writer (I really wouldn't know where to begin), but I'm in awe of you guys/gals who have such a skill. Hope 2010 brings much inspiration, ideas and offers knocking on doors :)

  17. I've partly been doing what I love - lots of reading on my subject. But I need to find more time to write. There are never enough hours in the day. I can't wait to hear more about your project, Melissa.

  18. Paddy, I think you do what you love, as well, with your incredible knowledge of the Golden Era. You are a goldmine of information!

Laurie - I know what you mean. I have to do so much reading/research that I don't get to write as soon as I want, but I guess it's all part of the process. :-)

  19. Your blog template is just pure adorable! Such a classy, memorable one.

Best of luck in creating a world for your character to struggle in. I am looking forward to know about your progresses!

I am doing some of the things I love at the time, but I definitely need to write a bit more on my story - it is not getting enough love for this week ;)
