I Need a Vacation

Blenheim Palace, home of Winston Churchill, October 2008
It's that fuzzy time between the end of winter and the beginning of spring when the weather isn't quite sure what to do. We've had days where the temps have been in the 60s and then the next day, we get a blizzard.

Yeah. Fun, fun!

I'm in a funk where the writing is concerned, and I decided not to force it, but let it pass.

What I think my mind really needs, though, is a vacation to a beautiful, exotic location rich in history.

Germany...England...France...Italy...

Yes, no tropical paradise for me. I am allergic to the sun (not really...but I may as well be for as much as I loathe it).

Alas, a vacation is not to be. The daily grind calls and I must answer.

But if I could go on vacation...oh yes. I'd hop a plane and go see the beaches of Normandy...the Imperial War Museum in London (which I missed last time I was there!)...visit my family in Turin, Italy...head over to Napoleon's tomb in Paris.

Now that is my idea of a vacation.

If you could take a vacation right now, where would you go?

  1. Right now we've been in a cold snap for three weeks, so anywhere warmer would be good, but if I got to choose. I would go on a cruise through the Mediterranean.

  2. I think, my dear, that I would have to opt for that tropical vacation-but with lots and lots of palm trees for shade:)

Someday I want to visit the beaches at Normandy too. And the forests where the Battle of the Bulge was fought. I can only imagine how full of awe I will be when I see those sights.
Also Bletchley Park in England-my hubby is a big fan of cryptology and would like to see an Enigma machine-and Amy wants to see Stonehenge:)

    When do we leave? :)

  3. With all the snow around here, I'd take advantage of it and choose to go to a Vermont chalet nestled in the mountains, with a roaring fireplace, good food, books, and company, and enjoy the end of winter :)

I love lakes and camping. I love snowy mountains and roaring cabin fires. I used to love scuba diving trips to exotic locales but that was years ago. But right now more than anything I want to go on a South African Safari.

So bad I can't stand it!!! LOL

  5. Oh, I love Blenheim Palace, I visited a couple of winters back and it was wonderful. ( must do again!) There's some great letters from Winston when he was a little boy sent away to school, he wrote to his Father (just heartbreaking).

    Happy weekend my dear! ;-)

  6. Oops, no, I think the letters were to his Mother... really sweet as he was sooo sooo young.

  7. I'd go to Hawaii. Kuai to be exact. I love that island so much.

  8. Patti - Y'know, at this point I'd even take that cruise. ANYTHING to get rid of these doldrums!

Valerie - As soon as we can pack, let's go!!! :-) To tell you the truth, when I saw Stonehenge, I was rather disappointed. It is much smaller than you think! But it's still neat to see. Wouldn't it be cool if you and I could go on one of those WW2 tours???

Joanne - Oh, a Vermont chalet sounds absolutely WONDERFUL.

Sharla - Now I can honestly say I have never wanted to go on a safari. I'll just watch the nature shows for my dose of big cats and flies and heat. :-) However, this may change someday as my daughter wants to travel to Africa to save the big cats. We shall see...

Talei - I loved Blenheim, too. Had a delicious dessert at the little cafe! I was disappointed I couldn't take pictures...which wasn't the case at Chatsworth (where I took probably over 100 of them!).

Tana - Ok, I'll make an exception for Hawaii to be on my list since Pearl Harbor is there. ;-)

  9. If I could, I'd be on a plane to New Zealand right now. *sigh*

  10. Christine - When I was in England, I met a lady from New Zealand. If she's any indication, they are very nice there. ;-)
