It's Done

I spent most of yesterday afternoon writing and I did something I've only done four other times in my life.

I wrote THE END.

Yes, novel #5 is done. Well...let me clarify. The rough draft is done. This baby needs to be edited! But I'm going to let it sit for awhile before I tackle it. Besides, I have that other book I need to get cracking on.

I wrote over 3,700 words yesterday and my shoulders are feeling it today. But it took my mind off the flare-up I'm currently experiencing, one that is attacking my knees (this is a first!), my ankles, wrists, fingers, and feet.

Funny that I don't feel this huge sense of accomplishment over typing THE END. Why? I suppose it's because I know it's far from being finished.

Still.

It is no longer a blank page. And that's what counts.

Congratulations on "The End"! Even though it's a rough draft, I find those to be the hardest to finish. You put it all out there and now it's just (hopefully) little things. Sending you positive thoughts as you start on the next!

  2. Congrats, Melissa! I'm with Jess! It's a huge accomplishment just finishing that rough draft!!

Writing never ceases to amaze me. I spent about three hours on my latest piece of short fiction-all 70 or so words of it! But I loved every second I was working on it! :)

  3. Congratulations, Melissa! I agree with Jess. That first draft is the hardest to write. Hurray for you for clearing the toughest hurdle of the writing journey!

  4. Congratulations! I always write "THE END" in capitals at the end of a story, just because it brings such a sense of closure and accomplishment. There's nothing quite like it! I've done it on a lot of short projects, but only once on the manuscript of a full-length novel (which is a long, long way from where I want it to be eventually).

I hope that flare-up settles down soon.

  7. Yes, even knowing all the work that will go into the second draft revisions, it's still a wonderful thing finishing that first draft. It's a huge milestone!
