On Elections and Bowling

On Elections...

It's Election Day here in the U.S. (which probably nearly everyone on the planet knows). I'm off to vote after work.

My mailbox has been inundated with junk mail from the local elections, and I'm heartily sick of it. The few times I watched t.v. and a political ad came on, I immediately hit the "mute" button. Ha!

If it's one message I want to send to anyone reading this blog, it's this: our political leaders are not rock stars or celebrities, and we should not view them as such. They are our employees. They are accountable to we the people. To forget this is dangerous. Hitler and Stalin taught us that.

I'm just glad it will all be over with come tomorrow. My recycling bin will thank me.

On Bowling (And My Health)...

It's been quiet on the blog...that's because my health is up and down a lot lately. I went bowling the other night with hubby for our date and spent the next two days walking around the house like an 80-year-old woman. This puts a cramp in my writing, and there are some days when stringing two sentences together is more difficult than making it rain.

I have my follow-up appointment at the rheumatologist tomorrow, and I'm hopeful of getting a diagnosis and perhaps getting started on some treatment options. Having your entire body hurt and wanting to take a nap all day long is certainly not conducive to any sort of writing productivity (or any productivity, for that matter).
Gratuitous photo of my napping cat.

However! I tend to think the two days of pain after bowling was slightly worth it since I beat my husband on every single game...

  1. Yes, the whole world nows abut the elections - even in little old Dunedin, NZ. And you are so right, they are not celebs, but employees! Very well put!
So sorry to hear of your continuing health problems. I'll keep you in my prayers.
And well done for acing the bowling!

    1. Thanks, JT! I wish more people would stop worshiping politicians. It literally makes me sick to my stomach to see it. Anyway.
Thanks for the prayers. Much appreciated!

  2. Glad the election is over. We hear about it way to much even in Canada. Hope you start feeling better soon. Pain is an awful thing to have to live with.

  3. Melissa, I'm glad the elections are over too. Now that all of the celebrity style hype is over, I pray that those elected will remember the seriousness of the jobs we've entrusted them with, and govern with wisdom. I hope you feel better soon too-but congrats on your victory, as painful as it was the next day:)

    1. I hope they remember to govern well, too, Valerie. I think there is a lot of corruption, greed, and selfishness in govt. I wish that weren't the case, but I believe it to be true the world-over.

  4. Great reminder that we tend to put our politicians on a pedestal a bit too much. Other than being happy with the result, I woke up relieved that the election was finally over!

    1. I wasn't particularly happy with the result, but I didn't approve of either candidate, so it was sort of anti-climatic for me. :)

  5. Your cat makes me want to nap! :)))

Like you, I got more election junk mail than all those candidates were worth! I am so glad it's over.

I hope you got some relief today. Beating the hubby on the lanes is pretty sweet, hee hee!!

    1. I am the "proud" recipient of another prescription. *sigh* I have come to accept the fact that I am not a healthy person, but I refuse to give up!

  6. Good thoughts on the election. I, like you, am glad it's over. As for your health, I hope you find some relief soon. Try to be gentle with yourself in the meantime.

    1. Thank you, Catherine. I'm learning there is a fine line between being gentle with myself and acting like an invalid. LOL. I have to learn not to overdo it, yet at certain times, to push myself a bit. It's a balancing act.

Thank you! I totally feel the same way. Politicians are supposed to work FOR us and represent US. Too bad they have become more like "pop stars."

I'm so sorry about how you're feeling. You've been on my mind. Any news yet?

    1. Yep - I have seronegative rheumatoid arthritis and am now taking methotrexate to try and prevent joint damage and help with the pain I have. I have good days and bad days (today was a good day) so I'm trying to figure out how to better navigate the bad days!
