Confession: I'm a Chocolate Addict

I'm really not kidding when I say I'm addicted to chocolate.

Dove Dark Chocolate is my absolute favorite. This amuses me because I always used to avoid dark chocolate. Milk chocolate was far more pleasing to my taste buds, and whenever I tried the darker kind, it always left a bitter taste in my mouth.

But when I heard that dark chocolate was better for you, well, I had to see if I could "adapt" to the taste.

I can say, with absolute certainty, that those taste buds have been forever converted.

While I occasionally will eat milk chocolate, it tastes nowhere near as good as it once did.

I've always loved chocolate. But lately, I've realized that I cannot go a single day without it. I honestly cannot remember the last day I didn't have some sort of the sweet stuff.

This makes losing weight a bit harder since chocolate contains fat. But in the past, I've successfully stuck to one serving of chocolate a day and lost weight.

The problem now, however, is that with moving to a new place and all the hassle that entails, I tend to deviate from one serving and make it closer to two. One serving of Dove Dark Chocolate is five pieces. Sometimes I stretch it to six or seven. Whoops.

I blame the stress.

However, dark chocolate (in moderation) is actually good for you.

So, I guess I'm just being really good to myself, right? :-)

  1. I usually can't last a day without chocolate and have given it up for Lent. Strangely enough it hasn't been that difficult, so far, but we're only half way through.

  2. Hey, it's all about the health. ;)

I'm not a chocolate fan, but when I do eat it, I prefer dark. Milk chocolate tastes too sweet to me now.

    Enjoy!

  3. I've tried to give up chocolate-but I'm like you-I can't do it. I NEED chocolate! (And I become a very unpleasant person when I am chocolate deprived!)
Amy and Stuart have learned not to leave any of their own chocolate left unguarded-because if I find it--it's GONE!

  4. Melissa, I just stumbled onto your blog, and I am so glad I did. You are a girl after my heart! I reward myself with a piece or two of dark chocolate - preferably Dove! - or a Nonni dark chocolate biscotti, after meeting my writing goal each day. It's the little things. I look forward to getting to know you better. And if you find a minute, please come visit my site. Best of luck in all that you do!

  5. Debs - You are BRAVE in giving it up for lent! I should try that next year...though I don't know how well I would succeed! Good for you. :-)

Christine - I thought you weren't a chocolate fan! But you like dogs and cats, so it's all good. *grin*

Valerie - ME TOO. I need it! In fact, when we go grocery shopping, my husband always asks, "Do you have enough chocolate? Do you need to get some?" Haha...he knows me all too well. :-)

Hi Pam! I'm so glad you stopped by. I should try and "reward" myself with chocolate for a job well done on the writing front, but I like to eat chocolate WHILE I write. ;-) For some reason, those two go hand and hand with me. I'm off to visit your blog now!

  6. Funny you mention chocolate, I found a small stack wrapped in ribbon this evening...I may just have to GOBBLE it all up now! ;-)

    Have a lovely week!

  7. I'm still a milk chocolate girl:)

Anyway, writers need all the therapy we can get! Chocolate may be your cheapest recovery.

  11. Terri - I think the first night we're all moved in, I'll go beyond my usual serving of chocolate and indulge. :-)

Jasmina - Oh my goodness, that sounds WONDERFUL!

  12. I've morphed into a no-chocolate person. I used to love it, but lost my sweet tooth back in my thirties and it never came back. Weird. But if I do eat chocolate nowadays, it's either dark chocolate See's Candies, or some kind of dark chocolate in general, so I hear you on the Dove dark chocolate! Enjoy a piece for me!

  13. DK - Y'know, I wouldn't mind losing my sweet tooth because it would help me get this weight off. I've heard that if you quit eating it and if you can make it through the first couple of weeks, you'll lose your taste for it. I'm not sure if I have the will power to try that or not!

  14. I just ran out of chocolate this afternoon. That means I have to last until I hit Trader Joes tomorrow. I eat mostly dark and I don't discriminate brands. Thank God I still have my Diet Dr. Pepper!!

  15. Tana - Oh my. I would be panicking, and definitely sending my husband out on a chocolate run!

  16. Have you ever had Lake Champlain chocolate? Their dark chocolate is the best you'll ever taste...only you might become a 'chocolate snob' like my mom and I and never want to eat any other brand again! :) I'm definitely a dark chocolate person too.

  17. Elisabeth - No, I've never had it! I'll have to check it out! Thanks for the tip. :-)
