Book In A Week

This is the second time my chapter has done a BIAW (Book in a Week) program and we're all doing great. I felt better last night and actually got three pages written, so that made me feel good anyway.

I think everyone does BIAW differently. Some just write as fast as they can, get as much down as they can, and then worry about fixing it later. My whole philosophy is to just make my book the focus of my week. It's ok if I don't get a TON of writing done because for me, a slow and steady pace is what I need. I do find my competitive edge rearing its ugly head when we all post how many pages we've done, though. One gal did ten pages yesterday. But I have to remind myself that we all work in different paces. But I do love how BIAW increases my productivity. I feel so much better about my writing and myself when I concentrate on my book. :-)

Maybe we here in Blogland should do our own BIAW sometime and post our page count (or word count, if you prefer) every day. Any takers?

  1. I'm doing two BIAW's this week. I did really well on Monday, not so good yesterday but at least I wrote a page. I like them because they make you focus for a set time without the huge commitment of a whole month.

We could host one on "Villa."

I'm a member of Michelle Rowen's WRITE-ONs and we do the odd word war. That's when we all get together in a chat room and then type furiously for a timed period and see how many words everyone got done. It's great because you lose the desire to edit.
That's another option, but I like your BIAW idea too. I'm just not sure it would be enough pressure (which I need).

  5. Nienke - Yeah, that's what we're basing it on, although everyone pretty much does their own thing. As long as they're working on their book, they're participating.

  8. I really enjoy doing the BIAW and if I weren't in the middle of revisions I'd take you up on that offer. Maybe I'll look at doing one in September when it comes time to start writing new stuff again...

Dinah Washington sings a wonderful tune called "What a Difference a Day Made." While the lyrics are romantic in nature, it perfect...
