I've been busy working on my non-fiction book. The first draft is almost completed. It's been a slow, arduous project, but ultimately, a fulfilling one.
I haven't been able to work at all on my novel for the past few weeks, though while on the drive to work today, I did get to thinking about my main character and how she should react in a particular scene. I'm eager to get back to it.
The second Christmas tree is up - I say second because the first tree was decimated by the cats. You can see what they did below (I had only put on the lights, no ornaments, thank goodness).
Since I was in the middle of a rheumatoid arthritis flare, I had pretty much decided I didn't have the energy to fix this tree or chase cats around all day. But my wonderful husband surprised me with a brand new, pre-lit tree. When he took it out of the box, he sternly told the cats to leave it alone and, surprise, surprise, they have listened (for the most part). I roused myself enough to decorate it, with the help of my daughter, and I think it turned out beautiful.

Goodness, what did they do to it? Eat it? :)
ReplyDeleteWe were all expecting a battle with our new German Shepherd puppy when the decorations went up, but amazingly, she's been very good—she's nosed at the garland a couple times, but leaves it alone when we tell her 'no.' Hoping she'll be as good with the tree when it comes in!
They climbed it, laid in the branches, chewed on it, and took turns wrestling underneath it. It's very possible they ate it, too! At one point, I just gave up and let them have at it. It was a really old tree anyway that had a lot of broken branches, but I didn't want to haul out my 7 foot tree because it takes forever to put together. So! They've been good so far with the new one, though I've had to reprimand them a few times.
ReplyDeleteI think dogs listen MUCH better than cats. Cats simply don't care what you think of them because we are, after all, their minions. =)
Oh my your cats did a number! Luckily, my cat does not really climb things - she is far too lazy. If I'm sitting by the tree she will occasionally come and swipe at a low-hanging ornament for attention but that's about it. We've had quite a bit of snow here and it sure is helping to set the Christmas mood!!
ReplyDeleteMy oldest cat doesn't bother the tree at all - she just naps underneath it. The other two, though...goodness! But they have left it alone the last few days. Maybe they're getting tired of it.
